observations of my artist

Elijah is very creative. A couple years ago I thought he didn't like "art" because he wasn't interested in crayons or coloring books or following what his "art" teacher did at his messy me class.

Then he figured out scissors. We've come to learn Elijah likes the 3 dimensional and wants to create what is in his "imagimation" not anyone elses. Cutting, taping, glueing, molding, building. We're forever picking the tiniest scraps of paper or plastic junk mail window or yarn or the remnents of any other object he can manipulate off the floor. Don't look at the rug in our dining/project room too closely. And the 3 second rule does not apply! Don't eat it.

Using the water color crayons absorbed him today. (In his whole life he's probably drawn 10 people.) He does like painting - objects, not so much paper. But I think the multiple steps really appealed to him. He learned to make nemo turn out the way he wanted he needed to draw and color him in with the water color crayon, then water brush paint over him and let him dry, and then go over with black for the stripes.

Kids just amaze me. I'm learning about being an artist from these guys.
