little tambourine man

At a garage sale two summers ago I could never have imagined the many roles this tambourine would play in our house. Elijah often pines for real instruments - his harmonica from Grandma and Grandpa Weidmann is a favorite. The other day he worked diligently on a guitar. Needed - lots of rubber bands, masking tape (everyone has their preferred tape - duct, scotch - Elijah finds masking 'forgiving'), a paper towel tube, and an old styrofoam tray. While he played he looked at me oddly as I broke into my rendition of hey mr tambourine (and have since had it stuck in my noggin).
During several intense days of guitar playing the instrument has fallen apart, only to be reborn as a bird's nest complete w/beads doubling as bird eggs. And what is a late october bird nest w/o its own halloween pumpkin hanging from the bottom? Elijah hung it from our mantle on Christmas stocking hooks. The other hooks are adorned w/paperclip chains and stretched rubberbands. If one gives during dinner, someone may get a snap on the back of their head.
