mr. appleseed

"the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, but the next best time is today"

We started 5 promising apple seeds today in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator. Greg's sister Beth gave me a thoughtful little burlap bag containing all the materials to start our own apple tree. The 5 seeds nestled into the stratification medium will sit in the cold drawer for 60 days. Sounds like it'll be 6-10 years before our potential tree produces fruit. If it all goes well Elijah may pick his own lunch apple for his first day of middle school from his own front yard.

The Johnny Appleseed book was a rummage sale find this summer and was a fitting conclusion for our mini activity. It thankfully distracted them from pirates, indians, and swords for 10 minutes!

Believe she found the set at uncommongoods.com.
