tie-dye Christmas

For Christmas with the Weidmann family (held during Thanksgiving in Massachusetts) Greg and I hosted a tie-dye party in the Smith's basement for the kids and adventurous adults. We kept it simple by ordering all the materials through Dharma Trading Company and having them shipped directly to the Smith's. Explaining to the FAA why I was carrying soda ash and urea in my carry on could just get ugly. It was tough enough to get my metal double-pointed knitting needles through.

We attended a tie-dye birthday party this fall and were able to pick up tips from Joy that were invaluable. Several very cool friends have hosted terrific tie-dye get togethers.

Seemed a great way for some kids and adults to express their creativity. All the results were fantastic! And we left the basement in decent, but not perfect shape (thanks Cathy and Ed!). The best part for me is having an enlarged copy of the above photo mounted in the living room to look at everyday.

Oddly, the amounts of matierals the company sends are not equivalent. No fixer left, but lots of urea? Maybe proportions just didn't work out for us due to human error.

Look forward to getting a photo of the boys with their Jorgensen cousins this weekend to add to the wall - perhaps on a bear hunt?
